2024 Year Ender: Presenting the ODI Team of the Year

With the year 2024 ending, let’s look at the possible ODI team of the year. The ODI team mostly comprises Asian Players.

Saim Ayub

Saim Ayub’s performance against Australia and South Africa in their home grounds has led Pakistan towards winning the series.

Them being two of the strongest ODI teams, Saim has become the most dangerous player in ODI against any team for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

P Nissanka –

Although Sri Lanka isn’t qualifying for the champions trophy but they have played the most ODI’s in 2024. Sri lankan opener Pathum Nissanka has played 12 matches and scored 694 runs in 2024 with the highest of 210 runs.

Kusal Mendis – 

Kusal Mendis scored 742 runs in 2024, highest by any player, with an average of 53 runs. His outstanding performances throughout makes him a deserving member of the ODI team of the year.

Keacy Carty –

Keacy Carty, batsmen from west indies, has performed well in the 2024 season. He scored 560 runs in 12 matches with an average of 62.22. This makes him a suitable batsmen for the middle order position.

Charith Asalanka –

Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka’s captain and middle order batsman, comes at number 5. He scored 605 runs with an average of 50.41 runs. He is a reliable middle order batsmen and has been great in 2024.

Babar Azam – 

The number one ODI batsmen from Pakistan has scored 228 runs from 6 matches averaging 57. The batsmen has played decent innings in ODI in South Africa and Australia.

Heinrich Klassen

Heinrich Klassen from South Africa is a fine batsman and has scored  264 runs in 3 ODIs with an average of 88 runs.

His innings against Pakistan was impressive and teams will consider him seriously while competing against South Africa in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Azmatullah Omarzai – 

Azmatullah Omarzai has taken 17 wickets in 14 matches. The right arm medium bowler from Afghanistan has shown pretty decent performance in 2024.

Rashid Khan – 

Rashid Khan from Afghanistan came back from Injury and has taken 15 wickets in just 8 matches. He is a very dangerous spinner and will be leading the bowling attack of Afghanistan in the upcoming champions trophy.

Shaheen Shah Afridi

Shaheen Shah Afridi has taken 15 wickets in just 6 ODIs that makes him a dangerous bowler. He will be leading the bowling attack of the host and defending champion in the upcoming champions trophy.

Wanindu Hasaranga –

Wanindu hasaranga has taken 26 wickets in 10 matches with an economy of 5.36. This makes him the highest wicket taker in 2024.
