Hetmyer Rejoins The England Series ODI Squad

For the forthcoming home series against England, Shimron Hetmyer has rejoined the West Indies ODI team. In December 2023, Hetmyer made his most recent appearance in this format against the same opponents. Since his century against India in December 2019, he has yet to reach even one half-century in the format.

The sole alteration to the 15-man team that recently toured Sri Lanka is adding Hetmyer instead of Alick Athanaze. Athanaze was excluded from the last ODI, which the West Indies won, despite scoring 10 and 1 throughout the series.

West Indies won the first Twenty20 International to start the visit on a high note but then lost the first two ODIs and eventually gave up the series.

However, Evin Lewis replaced Athanaze in the final game and made his first appearance in an ODI in three years. He slammed a quick century to guarantee that the West Indies finished the tour on a high note.

The 17-year-old Jewel Andrew, who debuted in the final ODI but was not given a batting opportunity, has kept his place in the team.

Team: Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr., Alzarri Joseph, Jewel Andrew, Shimron Hetmyer, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shamar Joseph, and Shai Hope (C).

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua will host the series’ opening game on October 31. The second ODI will be played at the exact location before the teams go to Barbados for the series final. The two teams will play a five-match T20I series following the end of the ODI series.

“Playing England always brings a fresh challenge and rekindles a rivalry that the Caribbean’s players and people look forward to.” When we play England, the West Indies somehow manage to step up our game.” Daren Sammy, head coach, stated.

“This rivalry dates back decades, and we’re prepared to take on a formidable England team once more after defeating them at home in an ODI series last year for the first time in a long time.

Playing at home is always unique because of the enthusiasm and energy the local crowd provides for every game. We’ve chosen a well-rounded roster that will undoubtedly push and fight with one of the top teams in the world as we aim to qualify for the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2027.
