David Warner has been named the Sydney Thunder’s captain for the next Big Bash League season, just after his leadership ban was overturned. Chris Green continues to play for the squad, but the seasoned left-hander takes his spot as captain.
Less than two weeks have passed since David Warner was declared eligible for captaincy, and a three-person independent panel expressed satisfaction that he satisfied all requirements to have the ban immediately revoked.
Leading the Thunder again this season means a lot to me. Being back with the ‘C’ next to my name feels great because I was a team member from the beginning. I’m excited to take the lead and impart my knowledge to the upcoming fresh talent,” Warner remarked.
“Off the field, leadership is equally important. I want to establish an atmosphere where everyone can relax, connect, and have fun away from the game.
It all comes down to maintaining unity and keeping grounded, whether it’s over a team dinner, on the golf course, or interacting with our supporters in Western Sydney.I would like to commend Greeny (Chris Green) for taking the lead.

After finishing last in the previous season, Thunder hopes that Warner’s leadership motivates them to win. The BBL|14 starts on December 15. On December 17, the Thunder will play their first game in Canberra against the Adelaide Strikers.
