On 7th January, the clash between Arsenal and New Castle United took place which resulted in the visitors winning the match with 2-0, the match took place in Emirate Stadium. They will now meet on 6th February for the second leg at St. James’ Park.
Arsenal has been left with a tough task to win in the second leg to qualify for the final.
New Castle United scored their first goal in the 37th Minute by Alexander Isaak and then it was followed by Anthony Gordon at 50th Minute. Both the teams had many chances but they missed.
Arsenal came closest when Gabriel Martinelli thumped the post when score was 0-0, although Arsenal had many chances but they were unable to recover from the damage in the game.
Kai Havertz also missed a golden opportunity in this match that could have changed the game.
New Castle United hasn’t won any major trophy since 1955 and with this victory, they’ll definitely enter the second leg as fan favorite in the tournament. The first Goal scored in this match was Alexander Isak’s 50th goal.
Before this match Arsenal was on a winning streak as they were unbeaten in 13 matches but in this match New Castle United outsmarted them.
Arsenal tried to put New Castle in Pressure but their efforts were not fruitful as the outcome of the match has brought Arsenal in a very difficult position for the second Leg.
This was New Castle’s first win against Arsenal in any match since 2010. Before this they won in premier league against Arsenal with 1-0 in November 2010.
Before this, they have played 60 games against each other, out of which Arsenal has won 38 games while New Castle United has won 11 while the rest went draw.
Although the odds for the second leg are not in Arsenal’s favor but their historical record and form before this match could make them comeback in the second leg.
