The fate of the champions trophy was hanging because of the disagreement between India and Pakistan as India didn’t want to visit Pakistan because of security reasons.
Due to political reasons, Pakistan and India haven’t played any bilateral series since 2012.
They only meet in ICC and ACC events, which makes their clash more important for the fans.
Last year, India refused to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup which resulted in moving their matches from the tournament to Sri Lanka.
However, during the ODI World Cup, Pakistan Team did travel to India. India was expected to travel to Pakistan next year for champions trophy but they simply refused, stating security concerns.
Sri Lanka and UAE were the top alternatives to be selected.
After long discussions and meetings, both the countries came to an agreement that Pakistan will accept the hybrid model with the condition that Pakistan will not play in India in the next three ICC events hosted by India and that they will also be move to a hybrid model.
Pakistan has chosen UAE as a neutral venue for India related matches.
India will play three of its group matches in UAE against Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh. If India qualifies for the semifinal and final, then these matches will also be played in UAE.
Otherwise, both the matches will be played in Pakistan.
