Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian Twenty20 team, is expected to be fit for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh next month as his recovery is proceeding as planned. According to information obtained by Hindustan Times, both Surya and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical team are pleased with his development.
Surya is recuperating nicely. He is nearly 100% aware of it, according to a BCCI source who spoke with Surya outside of the Duleep Trophy game between India A and India B at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.
An injury kept Suryakumar from playing for India C in the opening round of the Duleep Trophy versus India D in Anantapur, which is roughly four hours away from Bengaluru. He was taken to the NCA, where the medical staff closely monitored him.
On the third day of the contest, Surya hurt his right thumb while fielding in a Buchi Babu Invitational match versus TNCA XI. As a precaution, he did not bat in the second innings.
In an official press release on September 4, the BCCI confirmed that he will not be available for the first-round match. The BCCI added. Surya was at the Chinnaswamy Stadium every day of the India A vs. India B match. On Sunday, he appeared cheerful after having a long conversation with a couple of his Indian colleagues.
Surya will probably play in the second part of the Duleep Trophy, although it is still not sure. It will come from the Thursday, September 12th round. Notably, the BCCI expected Surya to be available from the second round onwards, so they had yet to select a replacement for him in the India C squad.
The Duleep Trophy is crucial to Surya's chances in the Tests
It will be Surya’s first red-ball match in over 14 months if he plays in India C’s next game versus India B. By the way, he played in the Duleep Trophy last year in his final red-ball match.
The upcoming Duleep Trophy is quite important for Surya’s chances of winning the Tests. Surya is an excellent T20I player, but he has struggled to establish himself in other competitions. Despite having many opportunities in One-Day Internationals, his average of 25 after 35 innings does not bode well for him.
He received his Test cap in red-ball cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia last year, but an injury forced him to miss the entire series after just one Test.
Except for Sarfaraz Khan, all Indian Test cricket players are scheduled to depart for Chennai on September 12 to participate in the preparatory camp. This means that numerous changes are anticipated in the Duleep Trophy squads. On September 19, a two-match Test series against Bangladesh will kick off the home season.
