According to a Tuesday announcement from New Zealand Cricket, Kane Williamson will not play in the third Test match against India, which is scheduled for Mumbai.
Williamson, who missed the first two Tests, will not travel to India for the final Test to be fully fit for the forthcoming home series against England, which begins on November 28.
He has been excluded as a precautionary measure to continue his recovery from his groin injury. Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, stated, “Kane isn’t quite ready to hop on a plane and join us, but he’s still showing good signs.”
Although there is hope, we believe that the best course of action is for him to remain in New Zealand and concentrate on the last aspects of his recovery to prepare him for England.
If he takes the conservative approach now, he will be ready for the first Test in Christchurch, as the England series is still a month away.
To increase its chances of making the World Test championship final, New Zealand would like to make a clean sweep of the series against India. Having already won the first two Test matches, the third Test gets underway in Mumbai on Friday.
